PLAYTIME - "FLICKERS"
or PLAYING FOR FAG CARDS
The play area at most schools was a small enclosed yard at either end of the main building. Boys were on one side and girls on the other. Most games played during the short break were of do-it-yourself construction - flicking cigarette cards, hopscotch, chasing, French cricket and a host of others. As the headmaster rings his bell, a boy hastily emerges from the toilets, still pulling up his pants. "Flickers" was one of many competitive games played to try to win more cigarette cards.
