GOOD FRIDAYS OF YORE
A popular venue was the White Gates at Leeswood. Families near the south side and centre of Buckley crocodiled in never-ending groups down Padeswood Road towards the White Gates at Leeswood. Built by a vain land owner, George Wynne, in the eighteenth century, they emphasised the magnificence of his home, Padeswood Hall. This was situated about a quarter of a mile above. Here in a field, the water meadow, alongside the stream, they romped and chased gaily round the surroundings: paddling, fishing, kite flying, games, swinging as well as just mooching around and making eyes at each other. A happy, gregarious day was enjoyed by all.
