THE DEE BORE - NO ESCAPE!

Meeting the Dee Bore at Connah's Quay. As the wall of water approaches at Oakenholt, there is an intense urge to get out and run! Placid water flowing outwards suddenly becomes a surging maelstrom of mountainous waves and thrashing spray. Gulls swoop and screech overhead, whilst the frail craft hazards floating timber and flotsam, jetsam and sewer discharges from Holywell and Flint which skim past in a wild, mad surge.

The eccentric canoeist is about to leave the calm waters of the river and encounter the surging currents of the sea.
