Nearing home at the Jubilee (the first time for Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church)"

Chester Road, Buckley

1970

The 1970 Jubilee was the first in which the Roman Catholic Church took part - its 114th. Approximately 100 children from the R.C. Church participated. Father Thomas Fitzharris said, "It has always been my ambition to be the first Catholic priest to walk in the Jubilee."

Mr Trevor Millington, the Chairman of the Jubilee Committee said, "I am very pleased that the Roman Catholics have decided to walk with us at last. This is the day that the Jubilee Committee have long been waiting for - to see all the denominations in the district take part."

The R.C. Church's tableau depicted the Ten Commandments.

It was reportedly the largest turnout ever, with fifteen Sunday Schools taking part. The service on the Common was conducted by Rev. J.V. Waring, curate of Bistre Church.
