WAY-FARER'S REST, TRAP BRICKWORKS

The itinerant, Roger, was well known locally. He was a frequent visitor to the warmth, if not comfort, of the kilns. These kilns were oil-fired and each fire grate was fed by an oil and air pipe. The change over from coal to oil was gradual as the kilns needed relacing or repairing. The worker is adjusting the inlet valve to control the intake of oil and air, while Roger looks on and dozes. The only noise to disturb him was the continuous roar of the kiln fires.
