CONNAH'S QUAY STATION
The Buckley Railway Spur, never in regular use, joins on the right. The spur had connections with the London and North Western Railway of which traces remain. The spur did not join the main line directly but by some connections which also served other lines.

NOTE BY CAROL SHONE
This is the first picture in a series of 45 which were first exhibited at Buckley Library in the early 1990's. They were then kindly donated by James Bentley to the County Record Office at Hawarden. When, as Community Librarian, I wanted to create a special event for the Millennium, I arranged for framed copies, with captions and a map to be displayed for the first quarter of the year at the library. It proved to be one of the most popular exhibitions ever held there. The Buckley Young People's Cultural Association generously donated the funds for the framing. James Bentley and I spent many hours on the captions and map, trying to ensure accuracy. The pictures with their captions represent, at least in some cases, a sort of amalgam of the scene depicted. Also, the stories were told to Jim many years ago, often by people directly associated with the subject in question. Collieries and brickworks changed ownership over the years and it was sometimes difficult to date and describe them. While looking at them once more for the archive, we experienced the same degree of puzzlement in some instances. However, the facts are accurate as far as Jim can make them. We hope you enjoy looking at his interpretation of the richness that was at the industrial heart of Buckley.
