These road works in Mill Lane were the final sections to join up with the Link Road. Traffic calming bumps were built along Mill Lane and through The Cross. The one by the lights in Padeswood Road had to be lowered as it scraped the bottoms of the cars.

The Disability Action Centre and the office next door were built on the site of the Mill Lane cottages. The Action Centre moved out and eventually both offices remained vacant for some time. The block was converted entirely into flats, with the windows being made smaller and higher off the ground.
