Mr Joe Lewis, the owner of Willow Cottage, had, alongside the cottage, the business called Joe Lewis Concrete Works, where he used to produce breeze-blocks and concrete gate posts. The ash used in the process of making the breeze-blocks came from the local brickworks - kiln residue.
