TUB - TIME
CAPTION ONE
Before pit baths became elaborate, warm and luxuriant, many miners had their traditional nightly tub in front of the fire. In these warm, friendly Buckley homes, everyone gave a hand.
CAPTION TWO
The typical homes of miners early last century were cramped cottages or terraced houses. A tin bath, hung on the outside shed wall, was usually brought inside the
kitchen for the nightly bath of the miner after his shift down the pit. It was filled from a cistern alongside the fire-grate. The miner stripped off in front of the fire and washing was quite informal.
