SUNDAY NIGHT WAS SINGING NIGHT
It used to be a common custom in Buckley for groups of people to meet after service and proceed to one of their homes for a sing-song.
Two versatile musicians, "Little Jimmy" and "Little Johnny" often led these Sunday evening get-togethers at their cottage near the "Mountain Pit".
They both worked at the pit.
VERSION TWO
After divine service on Sunday evenings in winter, groups of worshippers often gathered in a member's home for a religious sing-song. Popular initiators were "Little Johnny and Jimmy". Both were very small men employed in the Mountain Colliery lamp room. They were reported to be the smallest colliery workers in Wales. Little Johnny was 30" high and Little Jimmy was 36" high. Little Johnny was less amenable and tolerant than Little Jimmy.
