1952
The drawing was done for the souvenir programme and passed over to the printers. It was my idea to produce the drawing. I was on the sub-committee for the programme. Two of us submitted ideas. Vernon Hughes was the other. The committee decided on the one to be included. The buck's head, to represent Buckley, was drawn on a wall of bricks denoting our main industry at the time. The medallion makers added the mountains and fields behind the bricks. After it had appeared in the programme, there was some money left over in the Coronation funds and the Urban District Council decided to purchase a chain of office for the chairman of the council. The Swimming Club, the Royal Buckley Town Band and the Elfed School used the same design in their badges. It was used on the note heading and anything else produced by the council. That continued until 1994 when they chose a Japanese one instead of mine!
