Potter's stall - the Buckley pot men"

1910

CAPTION ONE

THE POTTER'S STALL

The potteries were small family businesses and after firing, one of the relatives would travel the surrounding countryside selling the wares. Markets visited included: Wrexham, Mold, Chester, Holywell, Ruthin, and Denbigh.

CAPTION TWO

THE POT SELLER

Most villages in North Wales were periodicaly visited by the pot-seller with his Buckley wares. Most items sold were culinary ware for the house and farm - pan mugs, milk coolers, jugs, chamber pots, ham mugs - but usually there were a variety of novelties for use as gifts - cuckoo whistles, tobacco jars, knick-knack caskets and puzzle jugs.
