Donkey work!"

Lime Quarry, Rhydymwyn

1914

I had this photo from Charles Cunnah who told me many tales of Buckley. This is what he has written on the back of the photo, which I have had since the early 1960's:

"This old donkey towed wounded soldiers about at Leeswood Hall when the 1914 war was on. He went to Rhydymwyn lime quarries, an old donkey. And I knew him to be there well over twenty years. He was there a long time after that.

C. Cunnah, Drury."

I don't know whether this donkey ever worked in Buckley but other donkeys would have earned their keep on the tramways of Buckley.

The double flanged wheels prevented the vehicle leaving the track.
