Charles Merriman Gibson, the Major's Australian nephew, was a sergeant in the AFC. He visited Buckley during the Great War. He had the distinction of being a member of the Australian team that won the British Empire Tug-of-War Championship at the Albert Hall (London!) on Boxing Day 1918.
